In Spanish, when you wish to list a set of instructional (commands) steps, you can use the verb infinitive. In English, I would recommend actually using the command form:

In order to make a good presentation:

  1. Research the topic or Do research on the topic
  2. Organize the main points.
  3. Make an outine
  4. Write an initial rough draft
  5. Polish and edit (flesh out) the rough draft
  6. Make a final copy
  7. Study and practice in front of friends....etc.
