I've heard it use in Mexico as "turn on" an appliance, though you don't always find that as a meaning when you check the dictionary.

The infinitive is prender.
I know this from Mexico, where it is used to say
To light a cigarette, or a candle.
The word I hear there for to turn on an appliance or light is encender.
Our dictionary shows weveral other meanings.
