What does "chor" mean in Spanish?

Many of my students are using the word "chor" for shorts on their clothing projects. I have never seen this word nor heard it used. Can it be used for the word shorts? I have always seen and used "cortos".

that's a really common anglicism in latin america for shorts, and is not "chor" we try to say shorts, its just the pronunciation that we have that make it sound like that

I feel your pain, but then this is how languages evolve. Maybe one day chor will be accepted as an official Spanish word? - MaryMcc, Oct 30, 2011

Hmmm, could it be our chore they are referring to? As in "the school project is such a chore?"

If so:

•to do the chores -> hacer las tareas

•what a chore! -> ¡vaya lata! smile
