Question

I have a course that says that cocinan is a verb how come when I translate it it means a noun " kitchen'

Cocinar is a verb. In its present indicative, in the third person singular form, it conjugates to cocina, which is also a noun meaning kitchen.

In order to determine how it's being used, look at context.

You will find that a word can be both a verb form and a noun often in Spanish. Off the top of my head, I can think of "juego", which is the yo form (present indicative) of "jugar", but also means "game".

If I told you that ella was the subject pronoun, the mood was subjunctive, and the tense was past, then the verb ending to attach to the stem would be "ara" or ella cocinara.

The conjugation charts for verbs are just a tabulation of verb ending to attach to the verb stem given the person (or subject pronoun), the tense, and the mood of the verb.

Cocinar is a verb indeed, and when you put cocinan into the translator, since it is a conjugated verb (in noun form) it automatically shows the verb, not the noun.

And cocina indeed means kitchen

****also- I totaly agree with SonrisaDelSo- please use "please". We are not texting. It's a computer- is it really that hard to type a few extra letters?
