good one Cogu :) - billygoat, Oct 27, 2011
The sentence including 'by' implies a little more emotion. As in, no matter what, I want to be with you (close to you) forever. - billygoat, Oct 27, 2011
For example, I say to my wife.... "I want to be with you forever" says....I want to remain with you, we might not always like each other, but nevertheless I want to be with you. However, saying "I want to be by your side forever" I am saying - billygoat, Oct 27, 2011
I want to be with you, support you, comfort you etc forever. - billygoat, Oct 27, 2011

Hi Migelis! You are probably grammatically correct, but we would never say this. You will probably hear it in films set perhaps 150 years ago, but it is not normally used in everyday English. - billygoat, Oct 27, 2011
Jejeje, Billy, I'm very old:) - migelis, Oct 27, 2011

By and by I will finish writing this book.

In small steps, sometime in the future, I will finish writing this book.

It's also used in religious songs to give hope for patience and endurance in this life for the impending eternal life. "By & by, when the morning comes, when the saints in God are gathered home, we will tell the story, how we've overcome, we will understand it better, by and by."
