DO NOT use the translator!! ¡No usar el traductor!

This thread is kindly moderated by drvicente. Please correct your posts according to drvicente’s indications and suggestions, and of course use the corrections to learn from your errors! smile.

Use the Word of the Day in a complete sentence that best exemplifies one of its definitions. Please provide both the Spanish and the English version and vote for other sentences that you like. The two best sentences (the most voted and the one selected by the mod and the thread owner) will be chosen to be used as the example sentences for the Word of the Day 30 days later based on votes and correctness. ********************************************************************************* Remember, you may NOT use a translator. This exercise is to test your abilities to write in both Spanish and English. ********************************************************************************* Only fully correct sentences are eligible to be chosen for the Word of the Day example sentences. ********************************************************************************** You may choose to include one picture with your sentences, but this picture may not be included in the Word of the Day email, so make sure your sentence is fully comprehensible without the visual aid .

The Palabra del Día will be posted one month in advance, and therefore will not match the word posted on the Website

Posts which will not be corrected or accepted:
• Captions with 3 words or less
• Paragraphs with more than 1 1/2 lines
• Posts which make no sense in either language
• Posts which consist mainly of lyrics or idioms which do not translate.
• Captions copied directly from books or other sources.
• Multiple posts from one person, or those who don't write the sentences in both English and Spanish.
Remember to correct your posts as suggested or they can NOT be "accepted".
Do not use subject pronouns in Spanish
Please refrain from overloading with graphic content (ie; bold smileys, etc). It makes it harder for the correctors to be able to read your posts…. )

Stay tuned for the last post, and we will tell you which are the two chosen posts - the most voted, and the one chosen by the moderators.

My Example:

Si compro regalos por Internet, normalmente se me olvida pedir la entrega rápida, así que los regalos siempre llegan tarde. Estoy despistado a veces.

If I buy gifts on-line, I usually forget to request fast delivery, so the gifts always arrive late. I’m clueless at times.

Sometimes I buy food on-line, this is very convenient because of the fast delivery.

A veces compro la comida en por tienda virtual, esto es muy cómodo debido a la entrega rápida.

You can get free delivery, or careful delivery - choose one.

Puedes recibir la entrega gratis, o la entrega precisa - escoge uno.

Después la corrección por Heidita:

Puedes recibir una entrega gratuita o una entrega cuidadosa...¡tú eliges!

Cuando era niño no estuve seguro si son las cigüenas o los carteros responsables de la entrega de los bebés.
alt_text alt_text When I was a child I wasn't sure if it's storks or postmen responsible for the delivery of a child.

Siempre me pongo nervioso cuando va a ser la entrega de calificaciones.

I'm always very nervous when it's going to be the grades delivery?

alt text

I promised I was going to participate here Chris, now, I am not sure of how do you say that phrase in English, when the teachers give the grades.

My best guess for English translation: "I always get nervous when the grades are delivered" - Peas, Oct 26, 2011
I would use the infamous "get". *when it's time to get my grades". We'd make it personal in English. - katydew, Oct 26, 2011
Agree with Katydew :-) - Peas, Oct 26, 2011
Welcome Dakie!! :) I agree with Katy - when it's time to get my grades - sounds perfect... :) - 001a2987, Oct 26, 2011
Well I always got nervous when I brought home my grades (they weren't delivered back then :)) - Yeser007, Oct 26, 2011
Me pongo nervioso cuando las notas escolares son entregadas por mis profesores. - drvicente, Oct 27, 2011
This is known as "the report card", which students "get" and take home to show parents. A report card could be delivered, but it's more common to say you "get" your report card. - pesta, Oct 27, 2011
Thank you very much everybody this helps a lot. ;) - Dakie, Oct 27, 2011

Se equivocaron con la entrega de huevos, entregaron una caja de pollitos en vez de eso.

They got it wrong with the egg delivery, they delivered a box of chicks instead.

I think Dewclaw meant: 1st sentence: "la entrega de huevos" & 2nd sentence: "box of chicks". - Peas, Oct 26, 2011
I would suggest using 'order' rather than 'delivery' in the first clause. Such as "They got my egg order wrong, they delivered a box of chicks instead." The meaning is the same but the English reads better this way. IMO :) - alphabich, Oct 26, 2011
Thank you alpha, Hm... I don't know. I would use delivery, it sounds good to me. - dewclaw, Oct 26, 2011
