Maiz pelado and mote blanco

Maiz pelado and mote blanco

Is "maiz pelado" (found in a Chilean cookbook) the same thing as "mote blanco" found in an hispanic grocery)? The maiz pelado is described as dried giant white corn, and thats what the mote blanco certainly appears to be. It's labelled on the package as hominy. Just curious that a google search finds either of these terms with several translations but never says they are the same thing!

Just out of curiosity I did a google.com.mx search (Mexican google) by typing in "maíz pelado mote blanco" and came up with an interesting Wikipedia article that referred to the "mote de maíz pelado". I believe that you are correct that they are the same thing, just an example of different terms in different regions.

The best name I can think of is "Maíz Trillado" Homini is somehow different and has a sour taste. Maíz trillado is uncooked.
