acolchante - What is the meaning in this context?

In the elevator, one person was eating an ice cream cone and the other was stuffing things into a bag and had set her other bags on the ground.

What did this refer to and which one were they talking about?

I'm not quite sure what you are asking about, but the word "acolchar" means to make plush. A pillow, a quilt is "acolchada" Mattress in Spanish is colchón.

Really hard to say, without being there.

We don't know what the bag stuffer was stuffing in her bag, but given that it was she (I assume female) who said it, I'd side with Farallon's and guess she means "Padding".

She's padding her bags, adding stuffing in order to pad it. Why, it's anyone's guess. Maybe you can figure it out, since you were there to see the action, and what was being stuffed in the bags.

Can you give us a bit more of the sentence?

Acolchante can mean mulching in the garden situation lol but perhaps here it refers to her padding her bag out?? Hard to say without the whole sentence.
