Is there a trick or easy way to count syllables in Spanish?
how many syllables are in this verse?
La muerte viene a ser cumplirse un plazo,

La-muer-te-vie-nea-ser-cum-plir-seun-pla-zo - 11
nea and seun are called sinalefa. It happens each time two vowels are together.
If the last word is stressed in the last syllable, you add a syllable to the counting.
If the last word is stressed in the second from the last syllable (as the verse above) don't add anything. 11+ 0 = 11
If the last word is stressed in the third from the last, substract a syllable.
