Note: This word will be the official Word of the Day and will be posted November 17, 2011.

DO NOT use the translator!! ¡No usar el traductor!

This thread is kindly moderated by drvicente. Please correct your posts according to drvicente’s indications and suggestions, and of course use the corrections to learn from your errors! smile.

Use the Word of the Day in a complete sentence that best exemplifies one of its definitions. Please provide both the Spanish and the English version and vote for other sentences that you like. The two best sentences (the most voted and the one selected by the mod and the thread owner) will be chosen to be used as the example sentences for the Word of the Day 30 days later based on votes and correctness. ********************************************************************************* Remember, you may NOT use a translator. This exercise is to test your abilities to write in both Spanish and English. ********************************************************************************* Only fully correct sentences are eligible to be chosen for the Word of the Day example sentences. ********************************************************************************** You may choose to include one picture with your sentences, but this picture may not be included in the Word of the Day email, so make sure your sentence is fully comprehensible without the visual aid .

The Palabra del Día will be posted one month in advance, and therefore will not match the word posted on the Website

Posts which will not be corrected or accepted:
• Captions with 3 words or less
• Paragraphs with more than 1 1/2 lines
• Posts which make no sense in either language
• Posts which consist mainly of lyrics or idioms which do not translate.
• Captions copied directly from books or other sources.
• Multiple posts from one person, or those who don't write the sentences in both English and Spanish.
Remember to correct your posts as suggested or they can NOT be "accepted".
Do not use subject pronouns in Spanish
Please refrain from overloading with graphic content (ie; bold smileys, etc). It makes it harder for the correctors to be able to read your posts…. )

Stay tuned for the last post, and we will tell you which are the two chosen posts - the most voted, and the one chosen by the moderators.

My Example:

Vivo en un pueblo pequeño donde no hay torres grandes. De hecho donde yo vivo una casa de dos pisos puede ser considerada una torre. jeje

I live in a small town where there are no large towers. In fact where I live a two story house can be considered a tower. jeje

I hope that our PrincessMariam is not going to be locked up in a tower, because I'm not a very good rescuer.

Espero que nuestra PrincessMariam no vaya a estar encerrada en una torre, porque no soy muy buen salvador.

Last year, I went to Madrid and visited the Kio Towers. I found them it very interesting because there are two towers and both are inclined intentionally.

El año pasado fui para Madrid y visité las Torres Kio. Las encontré muy interesantes porque son dos torres y ambas se encuentran inclinadas adrede.

"I found it very interesting..." found is the past tense of find, irregular, no need for -ed; I am not sure what to tell you about "it". Good job. :-) - Stadt, Oct 18, 2011

Lo único que me gusta sobre las torres de vidrio es observar la imagen del cielo reflejándose sobre sus lados.

The only thing I like about glass towers is watching the image of the sky reflected on their sides.

The Rotating Tower of Dubai will rotate slowly and appear twisted, and always different. It is ingenious and beautiful, but is also a stupid idea for a place for people to live.

La Torre Giratoria de Dubai se gira lentamente y aparece torcida, y siempre diferente. Es ingeniosa y bella, pero también es una idea estúpida de para un lugar para vivir por donde vive la gente.

(Gracias a Vicente)

La Torre de Eiffel puede ver por kilómetros de distancia. Es un señero emplazado por el centro de Paris.

With drvicente's corrections:

La Torre de Eiffel puede ser vista por kilómetros de distancia. Es un lugar señero emplazado por el centro de Paris.

The Eiffel Tower can be seen from miles around. It is a landmark located in the centre of Paris.

¡Jugar al ajedrez no es tan complicado! La primera cosa que debe aprender son los nombres de las piezas (también conocidas como 'trebejos'): tenemos un rey, una dama, dos torres, dos alfiles, dos caballos y ocho peones.

Playing chess is not that complicated! The first thing you have to learn are the names of the chess figures (also known as chessmen): we have one king, one queen, two rooks, two bishops, two knights and eight pawns.

En algunos pueblos españoles se ha construido una iglesia encima del castillo muy antiguo y las dos torres se complementan mutuamente.

In some Spanish villages a church was built on top of the ancient castle and the two towers complement each other.
