(In)Direct object uncertainty
¿Si escribo "Pregunto al señor," es "el señor" un objeto directo o indirecto? Quiero saber si la frase es un ejemplo del uso de la "a" personal en español o si es simplemente un objeto indirecto porque hay una pregunta implicita que funciona come el objeto directo.
Not sure if I am being clear, but I am trying to teach use of the personal a in Spanish and know that it comes before direct objects. If I use "I told John" John is an indirect object because it is understood that I told him something. Is that also true with the verb "preguntar"? In "I ask the man" the object man is an indirect object and not a direct object, is that right?

Objeto indirecto. No es cuestión de personal, sino la del objeto indirecto. Se supone que una cuestión es lo que estás preguntando al señor entonces la cuestión, aúnque no aparezca, es el objeto directo.
Date cuenta: "Voy a darle al coche una lavada ." El coche es el objeto indirecto y no es personal.
