How's my translation? English & Spanish

Here's what I want to say:

Up until June of this year, I wore glasses on and off for several years. My vision was very bad, but I would only wear them while reading or working on the computer. In June I got LASIK procedure and now my vision is perfect. I wish I would have gotten it done years ago.

Here's my translation. How does it look?

Hasta junio de este año, llevaba gafas y desactivar durante varios años. Mi visión era muy malo, pero sólo podría llevarlos al leer o trabajar en la computadora. En junio tuve procedimiento LASIK y ahora mi visión es perfecta. Ojalá que me hubiera metido lo hizo hace años.

It's quite good but some things can't be translated that literally, let's see this one:

First sentence in English would be better if it were: Up until last June I wore glasses on and off for several years

Hasta junio pasado, durante varios años, usaba gafas de vez en cuando. Mi visión era muy mala, pero sólo las usaba para leer o trabajar en la computadora. En junio recibí el procedimiento LASIK y ahora mi visión es perfecta. Ojalá lo hubiera hecho hace años.

Cheers!

Thank you for your feedback! - Sylvo, Oct 17, 2011
geo is there any reason you used podía usarlas for 'would' use them - I always seem to think 'could' as in be able to when I see 'podía' which is why I suggested the imperfect tense which can mean 'would' when it means 'used to' - Kiwi-Girl, Oct 17, 2011
re France, well stranger things have happened but somehow I think France will have their work cut out to win this one :) in fact after losing against Tonga I'm not quite sure how it works that France is in the final but all good :) - Kiwi-Girl, Oct 17, 2011
Kiwigirl...it's because this is past tense not conditional, in English we do use "would" in past tense e.g. "When I was younger I would eat my dinner and then go to bed", can't translate it like this to Spanish - geouk, Oct 17, 2011
So, the above sentence in Spanish "cuando era mas joven comia mi cena y me iba a la cama" no 'would' here. France lost in the goroup stages to Tonga, doesn't count, then beat England :) - geouk, Oct 17, 2011
Kiwigirl, you know what, now that I read it again I will use "solo las usaba", you're right! I was only focusing on the 'would' issue, so check out my new edit - geouk, Oct 17, 2011
je je nice one, I was just asking because I've recently learnt to use the imperfect tense to translate would when i could mean used to so I'm glad I did have that right, makes a change je je. And yes I know how it works really for France to be in the - Kiwi-Girl, Oct 17, 2011
fnal, lol :p - Kiwi-Girl, Oct 17, 2011
Glad you got that right. I'm not French lol, I'm from Scotland, so sad the kicked England out ;) - geouk, Oct 18, 2011

Hey Sylvo

I'm still learning too but here are my thoughts smile

For on and off I would put 'de vez en cuando'. smile

I 'would' wear them = how about the imperfect for that 'las llevaba mientras ...'

I'm not sure but maybe 'En junio me operaron usando la cirugía LASIK'.

And perhaps, Ojalá que lo hubiera hecho muchos años. - for the last bit.
