There is probably no need for a overly-literal translation here. In most contexts, you could probably just get away with saying "es que."

I agree with Izanoni, however, in Mexico a very common expression is "Lo que pasa es que ........."

Could it be "la cosa es que......." ?

That seems so simple but I do believe I have heard it once or twice. Whether it was Spanglish I can't tell you.

well it could be other translation, u know? for example the expression >> i mean = yo digo.. i can dig even if that would not be literally translated as long it is close to what i want to say which used by natives. thanks!
