tratando : can it mean trying?

:Ella esta tratando de levantar el sofa solo"...does this mean she is" trying" to lift the sofa by herself? I cannot find a definition of "tratando" that matches "trying"

Yes, it means she is trying. "Tratar de + infinitive" is used this way. Example: Estoy tratando de aprender español.
