Where I come from, we're at least unconsciously clearer about the real implications of this barbaric custom of separating babies from their parents, and call these despicable places "retén", which is the same word used for a detention center.

There could be different sections or wards. Nursery like in English is used. Another could be alojamiento madre-hijo. It also depends on the hospital in my country.
In my country "guardería" is a day-care center, a "school" for babies or toddlers before they go to kindergarten.

Nursery where they take the premature babies or keep the the first few hours is called, cuneros. I hope that helps,if you put Cuneros en el hospital or just Cuneros on google images it will show you the pictures just so you can reaffirm.
