what is the different between imprefect verb and gerund

Since there is no gerund in Spanish, I assume tis question is about English grammar.

The imperfect is a verb phrase describing habitual or ongoing actions in the past:

I was eating bacon when the earthquake happened.

I used to eat bacon.

I would eat bacon on Saturday mornings.

The gerund is a noun that looks like a present participle:

I like eating.

It can also be part of a noun phrase:

I like eating bacon.

Do you mean a verb conjugated in the imperfect tense, or an irregular verb?

The imperfect tense is a past tense, "yo aprendía". (I was learning)

A Spanish "gerundio" is used in the present perfect progressive tense, "estoy aprendiendo". (I am learning)

Examples:

Yo caminaba por el parque cada domingo. (I walked through the park every Sunday.)

Está escribiendo un ensayo para su clase de español. (He is writing an essay for his Spanish class.)
