Puede sernos muy útil

Question

That sernos seems really odd. Of course I see it, It could prove to be very useful to us.

But "sernos"? Come on. This seems to fly in the face of grammar. Puede ser muy útil para nosotros.

And yet while " Puede ser muy útil para nosotros" has more hits on google "Puede sernos muy útil" has a lot too AND it is a direct quote from Star Wars and so far the dub has been really really good.

So that is common to use that like that? Can ser just be placed with any pronoun? Or does that only work with útil and inútil?

Sernos está correcto, porque es algo que es para nosotros es como un conjunto de las dos palabras.

Puede sernos útil...

Puede sernos de ayuda....

Dejó de sernos indiferente...

Puede sernos dado..

Why not jeezle?

Puede followed by infinitive is actually very common:

Puede hacernos reír, puede darnos una alegría, puede sernos de útilidad-

I agree that this word construction with these particular words, Puede sernos muy útil, sounds different but just because it is usually spoken as Nos puede ser muy útil. But both ways are grammatically correct.

It makes perfect sense. 'Le dejé una carta a mi amigo' is a fine, normal sentence right? Would you say that the grammatically correct sentence is 'Dejé una carta para mi amigo'?

Same difference.

I sympathize though, you don't hear/see that a super lot (sernos).

It makes me think that "No me lo gusta" would work, since it feels to be of the same construction. But "No me lo gusta" doesn't taste good in my mouth you know? It's like breaking the rules of what should be "Esto no me gusta"
