water is feminino and there is a rule about " la/la when a word begins with a stressed "A" - kmaakheru, Oct 10, 2011

Spanish is my second language but from what I understand, "agua" is a feminine noun with a masculine article. Basically the article is "el" instead of "la" because 'la agua' is harder to say and also doesn't sound as good as 'el agua'

(I'm not sure if this is right but I'm sure I remember reading something like this somewhere else, it made sense to me)

just because water is femenine, and that's just how it is. Agua comes from the latin word aqua. water.

We have had that question asked here a multitude of times, but that is the first time that I recall it being asked in that manner. The usual question is why isn't it la agua? Yours is very original. Kudos.
