I would say that "carboncito" = "negrito" in this case. I might be wrong.

Or are we looking for the wrong word are you sure it wasn't 'cabron', 'cabroncito' as in little goat? It could refer to a stubborn or opinionated person or, I think, can even have connotations of loose morals - someone who cheats on their partner.

Googling Carboncito and Cuba I saw a few articles using it for mulatto. One of the articles was referring to President Obama as a caboncito. (and its use seemed to be deprecatory; unlike the term mulatto)

Carboncito is a place in Argentina. They may have been talking about that.
