talking to parents in Spanish Circa 1860s
At a family owned business in the 1860s would a son (Anglo but raised in Matamoros) speak more formally to his father or would he be apt to use a more familiar form of address. I am researching family who lived in both Brownsville and Matamoros from 1840s through present day. Everyday life is very important to me in getting a more accurate feel about the family. It was a large family and quite affluent, but father and elder son worked to run and advance all their holdings

I would imagine it would be far more formal than now. Children certainly spoke to their parents more formally in English at that time.
