Pez means fish and pescado means fish. I want to know what the difference is.

Pez is the critter in the water, the animal.

Pescado is the fish dish on your plate that you are going to eat.

If you ordered pez at a restaurant you might get a goldfish on your plate smile

Like they said "pez" is the still alive version. Literally "pescado" is "fished" as in "fished out of the water" with the intent of being cooked and eaten. =)
