Disparar

to shoot, to fire, to take a photograph (click here to take a picture); to say it

Note: This word will be the official Word of the Day and will be posted November 5, 2011.

DO NOT use the translator!! ¡No usar el traductor!

This thread is kindly moderated by drvicente. Please correct your posts according to drvicente’s indications and suggestions, and of course use the corrections to learn from your errors! smile.

Welcome our new corrector of the thread – drvicente!! ¡¡Bienvenido!!

Use the Word of the Day in a complete sentence that best exemplifies one of its definitions. Please provide both the Spanish and the English version and vote for other sentences that you like. The two best sentences (the most voted and the one selected by the mod and the thread owner) will be chosen to be used as the example sentences for the Word of the Day 30 days later based on votes and correctness. ********************************************************************************* Remember, you may NOT use a translator. This exercise is to test your abilities to write in both Spanish and English. ********************************************************************************* Only fully correct sentences are eligible to be chosen for the Word of the Day example sentences. ********************************************************************************** You may choose to include one picture with your sentences, but this picture may not be included in the Word of the Day email, so make sure your sentence is fully comprehensible without the visual aid .

The Palabra del Día will be posted one month in advance, and therefore will not match the word posted on the Website

Posts which will not be corrected or accepted:
• Captions with 3 words or less
• Paragraphs with more than 1 1/2 lines
• Posts which make no sense in either language
• Posts which consist mainly of lyrics or idioms which do not translate.
• Captions copied directly from books or other sources.
• Multiple posts from one person, or those who don't write the sentences in both English and Spanish.
Remember to correct your posts as suggested or they can NOT be "accepted".
Do not use subject pronouns in Spanish
Please refrain from overloading with graphic content (ie; bold smileys, etc). It makes it harder for the correctors to be able to read your posts…. )

Stay tuned for the last post, and we will tell you which are the two chosen posts - the most voted, and the one chosen by the moderators.

My Example:

He oído que querías decirme algo - si tienes algoque decirme – ¡dispara!

I’ve heard that you wanted to tell me something – if you have something to say to me – shoot!

Never go out, it is better to stay at home and don't look through the window, because Cupid is ready to shoot you with his arrow.

Nunca salgas, es mejor quedar quedarte a en casa y no mirar mires por la ventana, porque Cúpido está listo para dispararte con su flecha. smile

Disparar? Lo siento, no me puedo ayudarme contenerme. Cuando oigo esta palabra, solo puedo pensar en la letra inquietante de Dispara, Disparame, una canción por Laura Pausini y, para mi, una de las más hermosas de la década pasada.

Disparar? I'm sorry, I can't help myself. When I hear this word, I can only think of the haunting lyrics of Dispara, Disparame, a song by Laura Pausini and, for me, among the most beautiful of the past decade.

Wow..Tejano..that's deep..just a few changes to your already though provoking sentences..instead of "ayudarme"..try "contenerme." Las letras inquietantes (plural), lastly no need for "entre" una de las ma's hermosoas canciones de la de'cada (acento).... - drvicente, Oct 6, 2011
¡Gracias! ;-D - TejanoViejo, Oct 6, 2011
I am totally agree! I love her songs and ¨disparame, dispara¨! Ufff! Me fascina. - 00a4c226, Oct 6, 2011

Los jurados han proclamado su inocencia porque no le quedó más remedio salvo disparar en autodefensa.

The jury has proclaimed his innocence because he had no choice but to shoot in a self-defense.

In the duck hunting season, hunters spend many hours waiting in hiding for their prey only to shoot them . Durante la temporada de cazar patos ,los cazadores pasan muchas horas esperando su presa, escondidos, solamente a dispararlos.

Good job, amigo. 'Shooting innocent people' = it/ that/ this ---> the subject, No subject pronoun because the subject is already there and no comma or period between the subject and its verb. *Shooting innocent people does not bring peace*. :) - SpanishPal, Oct 6, 2011
