Mexican-Americans in South Texas use the word criada to say maid but what word do Mexicans in Mexico use for Maid?

Three words apply here, all are confirmed by native speakers here in Mexico:

1) Sirvienta ( Proper Spanish)

2) Criada (More in daily use also proper)

3) Chacha (Slang and is considered rude)

Chacha is short for muchacha, which is also rude specially if the maid is not young. - LuisCache, Oct 4, 2011

Googling Mexican job offers I would say one synonym would be sirvienta

He uses it in the context of maid. Interesting viewpoint, however.

According to one source that I've come across (which I find quite plausible), the term "criada" arose in times past when a "maid" was typically hired at a very young age and then "grew up" in the household of her employers. Thus, although not a member of the family, she was, indeed, "raised" within the family.
