How would you say the sport: cross-country skiing?

I would go with: esquí a campo traviesa =o= esquí de fondo.
The sport of skiing across the countryside (rather than downhill).

There's also "el esqui nórdico" but I believe this one is the Olympic sport of which cross country skiing is an event... anyone else? :) - cristalino, Oct 2, 2011

oooo, I like "el esquí nórdico" as cross-country skiing is sometimes referred to as Nordic skiing. Now I'll have to use it in conversation and see if I am understood (going to Mexico soon).
