I know that 'Te extraño' means I miss you but I cannot figure out how to say 'I missed' or 'I have missed' rather than 'I miss'.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Extrañar is a regular -ar verb.

Te extrañé - I missed you. Te he extrañado - I have missed you. Te eché de menos - an expression meaning I missed you. Te he echado de menos - I have missed you

You would probably use the imperfect to say I missed you, though.

That would be te extrañaba, or Echaba de menos.

Here is a tip:

Extraño is the simple present yo form of the verb extrañar. wink

One more tip, you can also use 'echar de menos' which is used in Spain more than anywhere else.

Te he echado de menos: I've missed you!

Te extrañé and te he extrañado are translated as "I miss you" and" I have missed you " respectively. That would be the preterite and the present perfect tenses.
