Is Santo Domingo a place or a name?

I'm working on my Spanish homework and I wondered if Santo Domingo was a place or a name. The directions were to write a short introduction using some information but im not sure if Santo Domingo is a name or a place.

I could be either. I would use it as a place in my story. Look up Santo Domingo on Goggle and you'll find tons of places to write about.

What Mariana says is essentially true, although the most common reference is as the capital city of the Dominican Republic.

To be a personal name, it would most likely take the form of "San Domingo" - St. DomingoDominic, or if you want to go really silly: St. Sunday.

I thought it was saint Sunday. Santo is saint. Domingo is Sunday. lolz
