Flashcard Editing
I was thinking of making a flashcard set about a particular topic, but first I serched the topic to see if there was already a set in the sytem. There were seveal and as I was looking for one with the words I wanted, I noticed an error in one of the sets. It is a set created by a member with only a few learning points and no reputation. I sent him a private message, but it hasn't yielded anything yet. I only mention his reputation and learning points to show that this is probably a member who will not be back to SD or doesn't care enough to correct his set. (By the way if there is a mistake in one of my sets, please let me know.)
This made me wonder if it would be possible to allow people to edit user sets of flashcards once they have a certain level of reputation or learning or some other qualification. Another possible solution to this problem would be requiring a certain number of reputation or learning points before allowing the creation of flashcard sets. A third idea I had was to add a button that would let a set be flagged. I know the administrators are very busy, and I don't expect them to monitor all flashcard sets. I do think there are ways to improve the flashcards though. Thanks for reading, and I am excited to read the response.

HI tc, this was implemented as such, I actually tried to get the edit function, but, I think it would have been impossible in any case to keep track of all the flashcards sets created per day.
Not even I have edit function on the flashcard sets.

Even if people with a certain level of reputation or learning points could edit flashcards, this doesn't mean that any future mistakes can be avoided or corrected properly.

Creating flashcards is a very valuable learning tool and one of the main reasons of the success of the forum.

I like this idea. Moreover, a flashcards moderator could correct the mistakes.
Very nice post TC.
Maybe I don't understand the Flashcard page correctly, but I thought that when one does not list their flashcards ("unlisted") they aren't expected to be perfect. They are mostly for the person who creates the flashcards.
Several comments:
(1) The majority of flashcards have some error, there are a large number created every day, and the decision was made long ago that no one had time to fix them all.
(2) Flashcards are considered the property of the creator, and they can create them the way they want.
(3) I think the right way to go about it is the way you did, by PM. Unfortunately a large number of users don't know how to edit, or don't check PMs, don't visit the site regularly, or don't want to bother to fix them. However I think most regular users would fix theirs if asked. I know I would.
(4) In those cases with many errors, I just don't do them. If there are only a few and there is enough good to make the set worth doing, I do it and write down a little reminder of the error so I can compensate for it when I get to it, and accept the fact that my score will not be as good on a set with errors. However, since the score is only for personal satisfaction, one can learn to deal with that.
I would rather someone just PM me and let me know that there is a mistake in one of my sets. I would want to know if there were a mistake!
Creating flashcards is a tricky thing. I've had people tell me to take out parenthesis because you can't hear those words. But I only put parenthesis on the English side.. so, I want to leave them there. I would not like it if someone came along and edited that. ![]()
