levantar la basura means to pick up trash?

Does levantar la basura mean to pick up trash? Ya me voy means im leaving?

I was taught to say levantar not recoger

If a native in your area taught you that "levantar" is used instead of "recoger" then you should use that expression.

"Ya me voy." (I'm leaving ...I'm out of here.)

It may be a regional thing, but if you say "levantar la basura" in Mexico, one gets the impression of lifting a garbage can into the air or something similar. To clean up the trash, it makes mre sense to say "recoger la basura."
