El sabor

taste, flavor

Note: This word will be the official Word of the Day and will be posted October 26, 2011.

DO NOT use the translator!! ¡No usar el traductor!

This thread is kindly moderated by Heidita. Please correct your posts according to Heidita’s indications and suggestions, and of course use the corrections to learn from your errors! smile.

Use the Word of the Day in a complete sentence that best exemplifies one of its definitions. Please provide both the Spanish and the English version and vote for other sentences that you like. The two best sentences (the most voted and the one selected by the mod and the thread owner) will be chosen to be used as the example sentences for the Word of the Day 30 days later based on votes and correctness. ********************************************************************************* Remember, you may NOT use a translator. This exercise is to test your abilities to write in both Spanish and English. ********************************************************************************* Only fully correct sentences are eligible to be chosen for the Word of the Day example sentences. ********************************************************************************** You may choose to include one picture with your sentences, but this picture may not be included in the Word of the Day email, so make sure your sentence is fully comprehensible without the visual aid .

The Palabra del Día will be posted one month in advance, and therefore will not match the word posted on the Website

Posts which will not be corrected or accepted:
• Captions with 3 words or less
• Paragraphs with more than 1 1/2 lines
• Posts which make no sense in either language
• Posts which consist mainly of lyrics or idioms which do not translate.
• Captions copied directly from books or other sources.
• Multiple posts from one person, or those who don't write the sentences in both English and Spanish.
Remember to correct your posts as suggested or they can NOT be "accepted".
Do not use subject pronouns in Spanish
Please refrain from overloading with graphic content (ie; bold smileys, etc). It makes it harder for the correctors to be able to read your posts…. )

Stay tuned for the last post, and we will tell you which are the two chosen posts - the most voted, and the one chosen by the moderators.

My Example:

Todos mis amigos saben que no me gusta el sabor de ninguna comida que sea blanca.

All my friends know that I don’t like the taste of any food that is white.

Todos sabemos que saber no es lo mismo que saborear, sin embargo el saber deja un sabor agradable de bocawink

We all know that to know is not the same as to taste, however, knowledge can really make you happywink

Hmmm, or maybe not? jeje

I have changed this idiom a bit, can one actually say: it leaves a nice taste in your mouth? Like it really makes you happy or you have a pleasant sensation? Is there an idiom or something? - 00494d19, Sep 26, 2011
We usually only say that something leaves a "bad taste in your mouth", not the other way around...I'm not sure what you're trying to say in English... - amykay, Sep 26, 2011
thanks bily, I am working on it:P:P - 00494d19, Sep 26, 2011
Briliant! - annierats, Sep 26, 2011
well, in Spanish you can say it leaves a good or bad taste in your mouth, the good taste meaning that it leaves a feeling of accomplishment or something... - 00494d19, Sep 26, 2011

La salchicha húngara tiene un sabor especial , sobre todo debído de pimentón húngaro.

The hungarian sausage has a special taste, mainly because of the hungarian paprika.

hmmm, do you mean they cannot taste it? Or they find it disgusting? - 00494d19, Sep 26, 2011
I read the English as "cannot taste." - territurtle, Sep 26, 2011
No, I understand perfgctly, they have no flavour ( the cucumbers). My husband is one of these persons. - annierats, Sep 26, 2011
Well apprently it's genetic and some people have a gene which allows them to taste cucumbers and some people (most people) do not. I guess I should have said "taste / cannot taste" but the WOTD was the noun not the verb - rabbitwho, Sep 26, 2011
oh,hmmm, oh, got it, percibir..that is it, ....percibir el sabor de...I did not know that - 00494d19, Sep 26, 2011
Cool thanks Heidi! I changed it to detect in English as well because it makes more sense than notice. Thanks again! - rabbitwho, Sep 27, 2011

Dependiendo de la boca, hasta la miel puede dejar mal sabor. Las palabras dulces también pueden dejar mal sabor, todo está en la mente.

Depending on the mouth, even honey can leave a bad taste. Sweet words too can leave a bad taste, it all depends on the mind.
