Improvised Chat last night, talking about a past event
I hosted an improvised chat last night and asked everybody to prepare a story or anecdote about some past event.
I invited 10 members, only 5 showed up.
Rabbit went to sleep, omg, you missed a really nice chat rabbit
Elaine, Fredbong and Miro were not connected, turtle and sandy were busy, pacofinkler was late, and poor Hotty was sick![]()
However: Jenny, Gary yesero, Wilbur, lovely and Chris were there and I must say...a small group is all it takes to be more confident and everybody has the opportunity to talk![]()
The story I liked most was lovely's she did an excellent job , great pronunciation, and her story was easily understood and she had to answer lots of questions from her companions.
I would like to congratulate Wilbur, it was her first time, and she did really well![]()
Chris had an interesting story to tell, buttttt, I got completely lost on the main verb used, that was such a shame. One can see, you just HAVE to get the verb right in a sentence. He has improved a lot on the pronunciation but we still need to work![]()
Gary just needs to study more, jeje, he has not problem, or no major problem on pronunciation, but he does not know the past tense all that well![]()
And what can I say about the super star of the night? Jelly belly is just...my special darling
, she was not really there to tell her story...she was there to help out and was the specially assigned translator of the night
Gary said he was blown away by her perfect Spanish, and while it is not perfect-perfect...it is certainly close ![]()
These were some comments:
Wilbur: thanks for inviting me, it was nerve wracking but fun
Gary: this was the best yet I think
Lovely: y heidi muchas gracias
Chris: Thank you for helping us Heidi!!
We talked for over two hours, ladies and gentlemen, just remember, if you had been connected, you could have joined us![]()

Thanks very much for last night, Heidi
. I had a fab time! It was really nice to have such a small group as everyone got the chance to talk (in my case a lot
) and it felt more relaxed
(even though it was a shame the other five people who were invited couldn't come).
It was my first time meeting Wilbur which was a pleasure
. She has a really nice English accent and I think she did really well talking Spanish. In fact, everyone did really well talking Spanish.
I was very surprised by Lovely. I met her when she first came onto Skype and she was very nervous talking Spanish, and I haven't really heard her since... but last night she shone! Her story was clear, well pronounced and very good
. She's really come a long way since I spoke to her that first time
.
Chris' story was very funny once we'd puzzled it out a bit
. We've also learned from his story never to trust him with organising anything
.
Gary was wonderful, too. It does show that he's been practising a lot of Spanish on Skype.
Like always, Heidi was fabulous. Her dedication to helping everyone learn Spanish is amazing. These chats wouldn't be the same without her, and certainly not as good
. She has a gift with people, and for making them talk (in sentences!). She is a
.
Thank you very much, everyone
.
I hope to be able to participate in a Skype chat soon. I've been using the "chat" sessions on the site here. I believe they are helping me with pronunciation. I can understand most of the conversation, but I still have trouble with speaking.
The cadence of the conversations there is slower than the Skype chat sessions, so it is easier for beginners like me.
I've noticed that members from Spain don't allow me to get by with as much as people from Latin American countries. Members from Spain correct my grammar, spelling, and use of prepositions, verbs, and articles. I need that.
Also, I can drop in on that chat whenever I'm available. My schedule doesn't always allow me to participate in the Skype chats.
Anyway, I hope to be at a level to join you someday. Congratulations to everyone with a skill level at that point.
HI everybody, as I said before, if we do this again, this will be a small group, 7 or 8 people tops! Big groups are not only complicated to hold online, everybody drops off, but the time is so limited, nobody can really talk![]()
So, next time I will announce the chat here on the forum, I will invite some people , if they cannot come, somebody else can take their place.
I actually only did this chat because lovely asked me to, so nicely I could not resist
The last time I hosted a chat, I was so disappointed by a person who actually "complained"
that I had not done one again....if it hadn't been for lovely![]()
Anyway, so stay tuned, the next chat will be directed at pronunciation, so I will invite those who I know need to practise that part more than others![]()
besos and thanks , everybody.
In any case, Lucie, dogwood, ANYBODY can be added to a chat, which we OFTEN improvise, if you are connected! We never see people connected, so if you are online, just connect your skype too![]()
Oh that was so much fun Heidi, thank you so so much for organizing the chat and for correcting my Spanish! ![]()
Even though it was a very small group, it was very helpful, but what can l say?
Everybody spoke very very well, it was a very nice practice ![]()

And although l've never heard Jen speaking Spanish before until yesterday, l believe she's already fluent!
she's such a sweet voice in both English & Spanish!
Gary was telling us about one of his very interesting stories, l really liked knowing about that, and his Spanish in the story was very well too ![]()
Wilbur!!! wow nice Spanish, for the first chat l'd give you 12 out of 10!! in my first chat l couldn't say a word! but you did it very well ![]()
And Chris, l think his story was the funniest soo funny, and his Spanish is so good, although Chris, l'm still surprised that your friend didn't leave you alone there! ![]()
Again, thank you so much Heidi, you're the best ![]()

One they I should like to join to, but I am afraid, because I am learning all alone and I have never ever spoken a word of spanish .
It sounds like you had a great time on Skype chat, last night, I do miss everyone.

I have a lot of problems and commitments at present which aren't serious but are time consuming and making me very tired!
But ........I will be back! ![]()
Sounds like fun!
I used to get invited to the chats...but now, I don't.....No one loves me.

Me gustaría mucho participar en otra charla de Skype intermedio (Skippy
) tan pronto como sea posible y apreciaría mucho, Heidita, si serías tan amable de invitarme de nuevo
![]()
= I would very much like to take part in another Skype chat (Skippy
) as soon as possible and ( I )would very much appreciate, Heidi, if you would be kind enough to invite me again.

But where is it posted that there IS a chat going on at a certain time? I was 'online' but on in SD last night.. but I could have been. ![]()
Drat ! I just did not make it in time !
Hmm, seems I missed this whole thing I was busy this past weekend. Well, I hope that you all had fun. I can't participate until I either get some new headphones or repair my old ones. However I am a very good procrastinator so that may not be for a while, besides some things are coming up that may make even having a spare weekend to do things impossible.
Well, in any case, I am working on my vocabulary very intently. So if I ever do manage to get back in there hopefully I'll have a new vocabulary so I can muster more than a simple "sí" or "no."
I will let you know, Heidi, when I have a functioning headset again. So, until then, save the invites for people who can actually attend. ![]()
I'll be there in spirit. Every time someone says "no entiendo" or spits out a monosyllable response, you'll know that I am there. ![]()
Once again thanks a lot for inviting me, anyone who wants to join in but in nervous don't worry, Heidi is very strict but in the nicest possible way, she even made me laugh when telling me off for trying to get away with one word answers ![]()
Oh and I want to say publicly that my sister friends were not as mean as I made them out to be, they did speak Spanish around, and to, me even the lovely man who is a staunch Catalan separatist.
Grrrrrrr, Paco, gotta be on time to get in on the fun! Thanks again, Heidita for "letting your arm be twisted by lovely!! I am looking forward to seeing the forum post for Saturday night pronunciation!
