DO NOT use the translator!! ¡No usar el traductor!

This thread is kindly moderated by Heidita. Please correct your posts according to Heidita’s indications and suggestions, and of course use the corrections to learn from your errors! smile.

Use the Word of the Day in a complete sentence that best exemplifies one of its definitions. Please provide both the Spanish and the English version and vote for other sentences that you like. The two best sentences (the most voted and the one selected by the mod and the thread owner) will be chosen to be used as the example sentences for the Word of the Day 30 days later based on votes and correctness. ********************************************************************************* Remember, you may NOT use a translator. This exercise is to test your abilities to write in both Spanish and English. ********************************************************************************* Only fully correct sentences are eligible to be chosen for the Word of the Day example sentences. ********************************************************************************** You may choose to include one picture with your sentences, but this picture may not be included in the Word of the Day email, so make sure your sentence is fully comprehensible without the visual aid .

The Palabra del Día will be posted one month in advance, and therefore will not match the word posted on the Website

Posts which will not be corrected or accepted:
• Captions with 3 words or less
• Paragraphs with more than 1 1/2 lines
• Posts which make no sense in either language
• Posts which consist mainly of lyrics or idioms which do not translate.
• Captions copied directly from books or other sources.
• Multiple posts from one person, or those who don't write the sentences in both English and Spanish.
Remember to correct your posts as suggested or they can NOT be "accepted".
Do not use subject pronouns in Spanish
Please refrain from overloading with graphic content (ie; bold smileys, etc). It makes it harder for the correctors to be able to read your posts…. )

Stay tuned for the last post, and we will tell you which are the two chosen posts - the most voted, and the one chosen by the moderators.

My Example:

Señor, me gustaría comprar un caramelo, pero cuando busqué en mi bolsillo, no pude encontrar nada…¿me puede prestar un dólar?

Sir, I would like to buy a sweet, but when I looked in my pocket, I couldn’t find anything….can I borrow a dollar?

The first thing that crossed my mind when I saw this post is a lovely song that you can enjoy in Oliver! the Musical called "You've got to pick a pocket or two".

Lo primero que pasó por mi cabeza cuando ví esta publicación es la encantadora canción que puedes disfrutar en el musical ¡Oliver! llamado "Tienes que coger de un bolsillo o dos".

Years ago we would always carry a pocket knife and a piece of string and maybe a safety pin , I still do that , but in a backpack. - ray76, Sep 23, 2011
Thank you Heidi , good to see you around again. - ray76, Sep 23, 2011
hmmm, good to see me around again? I am always here, jeje, today you talk in riddles - 00494d19, Sep 23, 2011
oh, and what are the things for? the knife may come in useful, but the string? jeje, funny - 00494d19, Sep 23, 2011
Well, Ray, one needs to keep one more kind of 'protection' in his pocket. ;) - SpanishPal, Sep 23, 2011
Hola, Ray, ¿ya has hecho las maletas? :) - Ingeteacher, Sep 23, 2011
Sí mis maletas son completo , pero muy pesado. - ray76, Sep 23, 2011

thank you all for your help and comments , I have been very blessed by having such wonderful friends. - ray76, Sep 23, 2011
Heidi my friend , some older people are very good at pulling strings to get things done , having another string to your bow is a metaphor. - ray76, Sep 23, 2011
oh, jeje, wonderful, I had no idea - 00494d19, Sep 23, 2011
If you had hole in your pocket you could play with that string. - LaloLoco, Sep 23, 2011
It is very hard to get a handle on things that are so minuscule these days and by the time I do I have forgotten why. - ray76, Sep 23, 2011
