A little idiomatic assistance, please.

Question

I saw the following theme on a talk show. I'm mainly interested in the idiomatic use of "fui," but there is also an idiomatic use of "cara." This is what I saw:

Nos engañaste con tu cara de yo no fui.

This is my interpretation: You had the nerve to cheat us, but it didn't work on me (I didn't go for it?).

Any input will be much appreciated. I am, of course, prepared to be totally wrong.

Well, the phrase yo no fui means: "I didn't do it" so it would be something like:

" You had the nerve to cheat us with your "I didn't do it" face.

I am not sure if that's what you wanted to say with your sentence.

I like Dakie's explanation or I think there should be a ...de que yo no fui for your interpretation.
