I am having serious problems loading the page of the site, I have to retry over and over...happens when posting or even only refreshing, very annoying, this screen comes up.

La conexión ha caducado

El servidor www.spanishdict.com está tardando demasiado en responder.

* El sitio podría estar no disponible temporalmente o
demasiado ocupado.

It only happens with this site, so I am wondering if you have the same problem.

thanks

I suggest that you stay off the site. That way you will not be over-taxing the site's resources. grin

I haven't noticed any slowing down of the server's responses (no timed-out's). It may be your particular ISP is being overwhelmed or any server along the path between your ISP's server and SpanishDict's server (backbone). There are ways to check the path to see if you are being rerouted (detoured) to avoid high traffic areas, but it is hardly worth the effort.

cortafuego=firewall?? (that's interesting)

pesta=I would have said fiirebreak too, but looking at the context I think it means if your equipment or net is being prtected by a firewall. - 0074b507, Sep 20, 2011

I have lots of issues loading this site at certain times. I can't tell if it's peak usage time for the site (since I'm in a different time-zone than everyone), but it will take refresh after refresh before it will load, and it doesn't submit things properly.

A message that often comes up is, "Bad request: you submitted a request that this server cannot process," or some such. Like with you, it only happens on this site.

This happens to me all the time downer. I use chrome but if this comes up, I try it on firefox and it still doesn't work even though my internet is working and all other web pages work. Sometimes I'm on the phone to Marianne while this is happening and the forum works fine for her downer.

I'm glad you asked this, Heidita. I've been having some problems, too. I'm on Firefox.

It is lagging. Like, I'll type and then 7 seconds later, it will show up.

It goes away after I've been on for a while. It doesn't seem to happen on any other site, so lo que sea...

Now that this site is using streaming video ads, it eats bandwidth like a starving black hole.

And it has to go to each of the dang servers for those ads, and if one of those servers is being backed up, or too busy, it may hang at that particular server address.

Basically, I suggest (urge, actually) you to consider holding a pow-wow among upper management. You might want to charge some of the bandwidth hogs more for their ads.

And P L E A S E consider offering subscriptions to SD addicts where they can enjoy site access without ads. cheese

You may not be aware of it, but every single interface option Chris has put up, there are literally thousands of decisions he must make concerning implementation. To date he has always chosen in favor of SD users, often at considerable extra work, anguish and frustration for himself.

No other site I know offers the quality of user experience this one does.

All the biggies, which require significant bandwidth like Google, Amazon, YouTube, etc. restrict the delivery of their content in favor of the delivery of ads. Result, it takes me 40 times as much effort to "get my business done" on them, than here on SD. I would really hate to see SD move in that directionexcaim

You can still keep your motto promise of "everything for free," but open a new revenue source for those "power users" who desire not to have the same movie trailer play 86 times during one of their online sessions. angry mad shut eye

I swear to you, I will never, ever go see the dang movie. cool grin

Enough said, Chris knows exactly what I am talking about.

Now, in the meantime, you can make sure you "clear your browser cache" often. And FireFox, in particular, defrags hard drives like there's no tomorrow. So badly, as a matter of fact, I now defrag every night before shutting down! I'll leave the rest of my tricks to myself, because I would not want to cause Chris more grief than he already has! wink

Please deal kindly with my suggestionquestion
