Ha ha! This makes such a good point as well about how we expect animals to communicate in the same way that we do and think they're stupid when they don't.
For example you can't teach a chimp to read the roman alphabet but they've taught them to read different colours and symbols in the same way. And you can't teach them to speak because of their voices but you can teach them to sign thousands of words.
And chimps are so similar to us! Think how much we underestimate a cat!
Oh here's an example :

They compare dogs to two year old children as if that were a compliment to the dog. There are hundreds of things dogs can do that 2 year old children can't!
And why on earth would a dog need to do the things that a 3 year old child can do? It's like giving an IQ test to someone who can't read and saying that from the results of his IQ test he is mentally disabled.
I love it when aliens from other planets speak English in movies.
