There are legitimate words, like ones in a dictionary, and not legit words, such as street slang. Each Spanish speaking region has its own "flavor", if you will, so each region has its own slang words.

Asking how many words exist in the Spanish language is like asking how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop. The world may never know.
