What's propher in this case: Estoy aburrido or soy aburrido?

I'm confused between the words Estoy and Soy instead they show the same meaning as I am. Example: Estoy Mal : "I am" not well. Soy Inteligente : "I am" intelligent.

"Estoy aburrido" would be correct as "aburrido" is a temporary condition. If you were to say "Soy aburrido" it would imply that you are a boring person in general, probably not what you wish to imply.

"Soy inteligente" means that you are an intelligent person, it is a permanent quality of yourself that does not change and therefore requires ser. Try Paralee's video lessons. She covers this in detail.

Thx A lot! think I understood now! - gazakorompis, Sep 17, 2011
Beware of the permanent/temporary explanation as this often won't work - eg a location can be permanent (a building) or temporary (a person) but in both cases estar should be used. See post below. - Kiwi-Girl, Sep 17, 2011

Bienvenido al foro gaza.

If you click on the more tab you will find a dropdown menu having a refference section. There you can find a wealth of valuable resources and helpful information.

Here is a link Ser and Estar

Estoy aburrido = I am bored

Soy aburrido = I am boring

Hope this helps.

¡Saludos!

Rather than learning to think in terms of ser for permanent and estar for temporary which won't always work - CID - classify, identify and define is what the verb SER does so if you want to classify yourself as a boring person then you would say 'soy aburrido' but I think it's unlikely that you'd want to do that.

ESTAR is used for situations and states in time and space so if at some particular time you are in the state of being bored you would say 'estoy aburrido'.

This is a great explanation for SER vs ESTAR. smile

Can't think of anything which contributed more toward me grasping the difference. Good cite, Kiwi!! - territurtle, Sep 17, 2011
