Inglés es...hermoso?

Inglés es...hermoso?

Everyone always says Spanish is beautiful, Italian is beautiful, French is beautiful...every language is beautiful. This made me think...Is English beautiful? Since it is my native language, I don't think of it as anything except English.

What are your thoughts on this? Natives and non-natives are welcome (especially non-natives wink)

Please post your native language.

Should it be "el inglés" or just "inglés" in my title? - SonrisaDelSol, Sep 16, 2011

I figure that depends on whether we're referring to Queens English, textese, Cockney, Louisiana's drawl, Harmlem's English, Jamaican Rasta English, Indian English - and what happens to be your favorite flavor or sound.

There are some English speakers I just love to listen to: Stephen Fry, John Cleese, Morgan Freeman, Sterling Holloway, to name just a few that pop readily to mind. There are some others I simply can't stand.

But the same happens in any language, really. There are regional Spanish accents I prefer over others. I won't name any preferences to avoid hurting sensibilities, but I have been to some places where I absolutely love the way people generally speak and pronounce their words, and others where I feel like I'm listening to generalized abomination. This is all so subjective!

I like it a whole bunch.

The trees were arms

the hills were dreams

I can say that a million times and it won't stop being beautiful.

Most beautiful language in the world is Czech though, no doubt in my mind!

English may not flow like all those languages you mentioned, but at least it is not gutteral like German.

In México I commented that many words sound so much nicer in Spanish, and I would compare the words. I was told that it was the way I was saying the English words (I guess in a mocking tone).

That said, English can be beautiful, but isn't always.

English can be extremely beautiful, you only have to read some poetry to realise that.

Spanish can be beautiful too but it can also sound very harsh, just listen to an altercation in Spanish and even if it is a minor row they sound like they are going to kill each other, very aggressive, or maybe that is a regional thing?

Inglés es hermoso, por ejemplo las poemas de Robert Burns, pero todas lenguas que quieras son tambien hermosas. Naturalmente la lengua materna es la más hermosa.

English is beautiful, for instance the poems of Robert Burns . but all the languages , which you like are also beauties. Naturally the mother tongue the most lovely.
