What is "Su" and "Sus" used for?

It's been a while since I've practiced Spanish and now I'm in spanish class again. I dont remember when or why I use "su" can you help?

"su" means "her", "his", "their", or "its".
Basically, its the thrid person possessive pronoun. It's non gender specific, and it can take some context to translate.
He did his work.
Él hizo su trabajo.
She hugged her children.
Ella abrazó sus niños.
