You should keep the original French name Mardi Gras and describe the event in Spanish..I totally agree with the others!

Place names are always acceptable in the native form. Therefore you can call it Mardi Gras, but describe it in Spanish. "Mardi Gras es una fiesta en que..."

Elainepnj is essentially right: Mardi Gras is a unique name for a special festivity. You may talk about "El Carnaval de Nueva Orleans", or "Mardi Gras, el carnaval de Nueva Orleans", but there's only one Mardi Gras, so it's fine to just call it that.

Technically, Mardi Gras is simply French for "Fat Tuesday", the day before lent (Ash Wednesday) so maybe you could call it martis gordo but that is really pushing it. I think Elainepnj and Gekko answered this right.

I do not know the history of Mardi Gras but in Brazil the party in the street that runs the week before Ash Wednesday is called Carnaval, same in northern Argentina, but I think keeping the regional name (Mardi Gras) is correct
