Which is the appropriate definite article for the word libro?

It is "el"
Masculine nouns like libro generally carry the masculine article el ie el libro while feminine nouns such as casa generally carry the feminine article .ie: la casa There are, of course, many exceptions,eg:
el día = The day
el agua = The water
el problema = The problem
These examples above represent just a few of the many exceptions
Therefore, it is always wise to learn each new noun with its corresponding article, instead of separating them, so as to make sure that you do not make unnecesary mistakes. eg; adding the wrong artiicle later.
One final point It is always worth remembering that when referring to parts of the body in Spanish you do not use the personal pronouns as you would do in English
English : My hand Español: la mano (lit; the hand)
English My head Español: la cabeza (lit: the head)
English: My shoulder Spanish: el hombro (lit; the shoulder)
English: My ankle Spanish el tobillo (lit: the ankle)
I hope this also helps
