Como diferenciar as / like

Question

Como puedo diferenciar cuando tengo que escribir la palabra "Como".

Sé que hay 3 tipos de "Como" --> How (Preguntas) , as , like

Como puedo saber a la hora de escribir que palabra poner as/like.

como significa 'like' - aproximadamente

Ella tiene como treinta años.

She is like thirty years old (she is about thirty years old).

como significa 'like' - parecido(a)

Eres como una hermana para mí.

You are just like a sister to me.

como significa 'as' - según

como te decía ayer

as I was telling you yesterday.

como significa 'as' - en calidad de

trabaja como bombero

he works as a fireman.

Unfortunately, the usage of like and as in both spoken and written English is not the same as that dictated by strict grammarians.

(They claim that like can't be used as a conjunction, despite the fact that it has been used that way for over 6 centuries, and that as must be followed with a phrase containing both a subject and a verb.)

Typo- I think you meant "of" not "if". I am sure that if I knew what the rule was, I would realize that I am using them incorrectly. :-) - Stadt, Sep 12, 2011
