Spanish computer program (essay analyzer)

Hello everybody

I have been working on a product that scans documents that are written in Spanish and looks for grammatical and orthographic errors. I used it last year in school, and think it improved my grades.I’m looking for feedback on the product, and need people who are using Windows 7 and Word 2010 to try it out.

It scans for:

*Duplicated words *Common subjunctive clauses *Common false cognates *Words missing accent marks *Issues with conjunctions (like o otro = u otro) *Irregular past participles *Linked prepositions *Word gender scan (contains a list of common words that ‘break’ the gender rule, like ‘el clima’)

And contains spell-checking capabilities. If there are any other features you think would be useful to a student studying Spanish, please let me know.

I call the product “Te ayudará hacia una A” You can download it from http://www.superasoft.com

I have installed it successfully on Windows 2000-XP, and I have used it on Word 2000,2003, and 2007.

Thanks for any feedback!

Sounds like a good idea. Appart from the stuff a spell-checker already does. I don't use windows though. Best of luck! - rabbitwho, Sep 11, 2011
thanks so much. i am downloading it. - Shabbu, Sep 11, 2011
I'd like to try it but I use Linux. - jeezzle, Sep 11, 2011
Mac here I'm afraid - lagartijaverde, Sep 12, 2011
“Te ayudará hacer/conseguir/lograr una A” (In my opinion, "consequir is much better, here. Followed by "lograr".)) - samdie, Sep 12, 2011
Awesome. I'll upload a new setup file tonight with the product name changed. Now to update the website, too :) - Roberto2543, Sep 12, 2011

A lot of this stuff is already covered in the intrinsic spelling/grammar check for Word, but it is really nice to be able to see it in list boxes next to the document, and then be able to go list box by list box and correct/verify that things are correct.

It's nice that SpanishDict made the useful links list. - 0074b507, Sep 11, 2011

That "Te ayudará hacia una A" sounds weird to me (at best). I'd say "Te ayudará a conseguir..."

In "Sabe que no tenemos que ir" it warns me about duplicate words!! (-> que) Why duplicate?

Oops. I wrote a comment before scrolling down to your post. Ah well, now that you have replied, nobody will pay the slightest attention to what I wrote. - samdie, Sep 12, 2011

Just to mention it as feedback:

Using Windows 7 and Office Word 2010:

When I installed the program it created a folder in my Start Menu, but the folder was empty. I had to go to the Programs folders, find the executable file and Pin it to the Start Menu.

I don't know if that was because I decompressed the files to a temporary file folder or not. Also I used Winzip rather than WinRar (I have both) just because Winzip came up as my default program for compressed files. That might also be a factor.

Just letting you know.

Winzip/Winrar shouldn't be a factor but neither is an "installation program" they just decompress the file(s). - samdie, Sep 12, 2011

Hola a todos,

I hope you guys have been using the program successfully. Has anyone found any errors in it, things that are flagged in essays that shouldn't be flagged? I hope not, but if so, please let me know so I can rewrite the code smile

Also, I'm curious about Spanish speakers who learned English as a second language. What did you have problems with when you were learning English? I've tried to add some things to the English portion of the program, like a rule for "A" versus "An", but I'm looking for more things to add.

Si alguien tiene unas ideas, serian agradecidos.

Hi, I might change the name of the product based on that feedback. What do other people think about that name? It would still rhyme, so that would be good.

As far as the duplicate on "que" goes. The program just keeps a count of each individual word in the file, and if any word shows up >1 time, the listbox will add one instance of the word to the listbox. So if the word "que" is in the text 3 times, it will show up twice under the "duplicate" listbox, if it appears 4 times in the text, it will show up three times under the "duplicate listbox, y asi sucesivamente. smile

You can delete common words from the duplicate list, also, if you don't want a cluttered list of words to page through when you are looking through the paper. Just click the checkbox under "remove common words from list" and you can delete preselcted words, or add your own words to a list to delete them.

Thanks for using it!

Thank you! That is exactly the kind of feedback I am looking for! smile Hope you enjoy the program.

Update: Fixed the problem, now the installer will give you an icon for the program in your start menu.
