The green checkmark
The other day I was about to ask what the green checkmark meant. The forum informed me that someone had already asked the same question and I found out that it meant the questioner had accepted an answer. Now my follow-up question is, why aren't there more green checkmarks? Is it because most people don't know about "accepting" or don't take the trouble to "accept?" My guess is that most people are pleased, as I am, when someone answers their question and wouldn't mind clicking the accept button. So I'm wondering if most people are aware of it and, if not, maybe the program should make it clearer. Thanks.

The reason that it seems that it isn't used much is that people are waiting for more replies. You want to give everyone possible a chance to answer your question. Of course, while you are waiting your question moves on to page 3 or 4 and either you lose track of it or even if you do then select a best answer no one sees the green check mark because the question is too far down the list.
To see if people are actually accepting answers or not, you would have to look at threads that are several days old or more. I see people with a lot of high reputation points. All of those points are coming from somewhere. Some people must be accepting answers and/or voting answers up.
