Esposo o Marido?

What is the most common way to say, "my husband" or "my wife"? Is it said differently in different countries? I'd love to have a listing for different places.

I recall Heidita saying once that in Spain they prefer esposa (mujer) for wife but marido over esposo for husband.

No idea why there is no word "marida" for esposa.

In some regions there may be more involved than just customary usage, one being your legal spouse and the other being your live-in "significant other"

It seems there should be a choice other than mujer, something pretty and elegant! - katydew, Sep 10, 2011
I don't know..I always thought "ball & chain" was pretty poetic. - 0074b507, Sep 10, 2011

I can confirm what qfreed said - Heidita told me that marido is husband and esposos means a married couple. I've never heard anything but esposa for wife.

I know from the workers at my ranch that esposa means wife, maybe, while mujer means your woman. You can guess at the combinations possible there.

Could one say " Tu esposa es mi mujer . Then run very very fast ? - ray76, Sep 11, 2011
That reminds me of an old David Lindley song, "Your Old Lady is My Old Lady, Too". - KevinB, Sep 11, 2011
