Learning Through Songs

Hola,

I've this tendency to learn more quickly with the help of melody. I've learned a few awesome words and their pronunciation from No Me Ames by Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony. The thing is I really have to enjoy the tune and all, in order to be curious in understanding the meaning and playing it over and over again.

So here I'm up for any suggestion of what Spanish songs you would recommend me to listen to. My collection's pretty much as limited as Enrique Iglesias or Shakira when it comes to Spanish-speaking musicians.

Muchas gracias. Deedee

Another suggestion: Go to youtube and put Songs for Learning Spanish in the youtube search box. You'll find a variety of artists and styles uploaded and translated by escorpio123. Escorpio rates them in terms of difficulty. He's a native speaker of Spanish, and you'll find an occasional tiny, unimportant error in the English translation but he has put in a lot of time and done a great job. Also, have you ever heard Carlos Vives? Try Fruta Fresca; the music is fun. You might like the very nice lyrics of Un Dia Normal by Juanes. Have fun!

Hola, Deepa! I love Shakira, too LOL

Here's my Spanish playlist! My favorite songs are stated below...

I love "Niña Bonita" by Chino y Nacho. I dare you to not start dancing while listening to it!

And then "Colgando en Tus Manos". This song is...beautiful.

O H M Y G O O D N E S S - "Loca" by Shakira...it's amazing! In English, it's very upbeat. In Spanish, she sings so quickly, Dios mío, it's ridiculous. "Loca" is very contemporary. Loca - Spanish Version

Another Shakira song is "Waka Waka". Waka Waka - Spanish Have you heard Rabiosa by Shakira? (I like the English version better because I like Pitbull smile )

Also, if you like Selena Gomez, this is her song "Who Says" in Spanish...Dices - Selena Gomez

Julieta Venegas is really talented! I like "Andar Conmigo".

Ha-Ash has a song called No Te Quiero Nada. Lol, the video makes me laugh!!

Maná - Arde el cielo - WATCH THE VIDEO!! It's awesome!

"Mi Tierra" My Land

De mi tierra bella, de mi tierra santa Of my beautiful land, of my sainted land

Oigo ese grito de los tambores Listen to this cry of the drums

Y los timbales al cumbanchar And the timbales to boogie

Y ese pregon que canta un hermano And that street seller's cry sings of a brother

Que de su tierra vive lejano Of your land that lives far away

Y que el recuerdo le hace llorar And that the memory of him makes you cry

Una cancion que vive entonando A song that lives singing

De su dolor, de su propio llanto Of your pain, of your own crying

Y se le escucha penar And that to hear it punishes you

La tierra te duele, la tierra te da The land that hurts you, the land that give to you

En medio del alma cuando tu no estas In the middle of the soul when you are not (there)

La tierra te empuja de raiz y cal The land that pushes you to the root and soil

La tierra suspira si no te ve mas The land sighs if you don't see it any more

La tierra donde naciste no la puedes olvidar The land where you were born you cannot forget

Porque tiene tus raices y lo que dejas atras Because it has your roots and that which you leave behind

La tierra te duele, la tierra te da The land that hurts you, the land that gives to you

En medio del alma cuando tu no estas In the middle of the soul when you are not (there)

La tierra te empuja de raiz y cal The land that pushes you to the root and the soil

La tierra suspira si no te ve mas The land sighs if you don't see it any more

Siguen los pregones, la melancolia Follow the cries, the sadness,

Y cada noche junto a la luna And each night together with the moon

Sigue el guajiro entonando el son Follow the mountain farmer of Cuba singing the tune

Y cada calle que va a mi pueblo And each street that goes to my village

Tiene un quejido, tiene un lamento Has a groan, has a lament

Tiene nostalgia como su voz Has nostalgia for its voice

Y esa cancion que sigue entonando And this song that continues singing

Corre en la sangre y Runs in the blood and

Sigue llegando Continues coming

Con mas fuerza al corazon With the greater strength of the heart

La tierra te duele, la tierra te da The land that hurts you, the land that gives to you

En medio del alma cuando tu no estas In the middle of the soul when you are not (there)

La tierra te empuja de raiz y cal The land that pushes you to the root and the soil

La tierra suspira si no te ve mas The land that sighs if you don't see it any more.

Tiene un quejido... !mi tierra! Have a groan...my land!

Tiene un lamento... !mi tierra! Have a cry...my land!

Nunca la olvido... !mi tierra! I will never forget it...my land!

La llevo en mi sentimiento, !si senor! I took it in my feelings, yes, sir!

Oigo ese grito... !mi tierra! Listen to this cry...my land!

Vive el recuerdo... !mi tierra! Live in the memory...my land!

Corre en mi sangre... !mi tierra! Run in my blood...my land!

La llevo por dentro !como no! I took it within. How not!

Canto de mi tierra bella y santa I sing of my beautiful and sainted land

Sufro ese dolor que hay en su alma I suffer that pain that there is in its soul

Aunque este lejos yo la siento Although it is far I feel it

Y un dia regreso yo lo se And one day I know I will return

Hola, deeparamita! I learn the same way! :D They say that the center of our memory in the brain is near to the center of audition. I learnt a lot listening to Alejandro Sanz. Especially to his "Corazón partio" (I have been told that it should be "partido" ). And sure Iglesias is a grear teacher smile His songs are in both english and spanish! Easy to learn! I hope this will help! About Shakira. I like her very much, but her speech sometimes is very "rapido" :D

Hasta pronto smile
