If you read this previous thread or more current discussions it seems that there is a lot of regional variance on the words used to describe that position in Spanish and you may have a hard time finding a word as descriptive as janitor in English.

conserje, portero, bedel, guarda, guardían, custodio, ....

Personally, I like empleado de limpieza because it, at least, tells you that the person helps clean up, but I think that is more of a housemaid.
