How would you say "a long time in the making"?

[edit] What I'm working on now is describing "la movida madrileña", and I was thinking of saying something along the lines of, "...the revolution was a long time in the making..."

La movida/el movimiento no se hizo /no se creó de un día para otro.

La movida madrileña no es una revolución, sino una manera de sentir la ciudadwink

Sí, tienes razón. Pero..... ¿una revolución cultural? - Soninmyeyes, Sep 7, 2011

Maybe you could use: "La revolución se gestó durante un largo tiempo..."

Thats an Idiom, and Im afraid it's not easily translated.

If you can tell us how you want to use the phrase, we could provide you with an equivalent expression.

Cheers!
