Do you want to write for the Word of the Day?

Do you want to write for the Word of the Day?

We have been so impressed by all the awesome sentences you SpanishAdDicts have been coming up with in the Palabra del Día game, that we thought to ourselves, "Why not have them write the sentences for future words of the day?"

So, starting tomorrow, instead of writing sentences using the current word of the day, you will have the opportunity to write example sentences for the word of the day that will appear 30 days in the future! IndianaChris will give you the word, definition, and example sentence. You can write your own sentence and, just like the current game, Heidi and the mods will provide corrections for your sentences. The only difference is that the best two sentences will be chosen to be featured as the sentences in the official SpanishDict Word of the Day! You will even be given credit in the daily email! (And we are working on new badges!)

IndianaChris will start the competition tomorrow, so get ready! Tomorrow's word will be the Word of the Day for October 7. All of the rules will be the same as the current game, but keep in mind that the sentences will be in an email that goes out to thousands of people, so really long sentences aren't ideal. Also, if you want to include a picture (we are working on a way to incorporate this into the email as well), make sure you get one with creative commons licensing so we can publish it without making anyone angry. You can find them at http://search.creativecommons.org.

I personally can not WAIT to see the awesome sentences you can come up with. I'm sure you're tired of reading mine since they all have to do with my dog or living in the mountains anyway smile

Please remember to keep the sentences short if you wish to be chosen. Not longer than two lines tops (preferably ONE LINE!)

The sentences MUST make sense without the picture, we don't know if the picture function will be installed.

Don't use idioms etc, please check the rules of the game for updates!

Remember: Tomorrow's word in the thread is NOT the word you will see on the right of the screen and the one which will be sent to you, as that is the CURRENT word of the day.wink

From now on we are providing the word of the day in advance and the word you will see in the thread is NEXT MONTH's word. It will always be posted one month in advance.

We hope you like the changes, and remember to correct your posts wink

This is a very new and very exciting new change, I think it's very cool that the members of SpanishDict are going to be part of the Word of the Day sentences, very very cool....

I do have one thing to ask of everyone.....

In order to help me decide the best answers, and in order to be fair to everyone, I hope that everyone that posts answers will revisit the thread, read the posts from people that post later, so that everyone will have a chance, not just people that post first....

Thank you all, and thank you Paralee for trusting our great SpanishDict members with this task!! smile

This new format for "palabra del día " sounds like even more fun can be had by those who participate . On behalf of those who have been banned from this particular thread, dare I ask will the bans be lifted?

you can ask in private;) - 00494d19, Sep 7, 2011
Once the Priest pronounces they are " man and wife "then the bans are invalid , or is it a case of one persons ban is anothers freedom , Christiasn orthodoxy was never my strong suit , nor anything really. - ray76, Sep 8, 2011
But a brave and valid question no less , good on you Jennyo45. - ray76, Sep 8, 2011

It will be a few months before we get the badges going as we have some more awesome programming projects in line first. But we'll get them to you as soon as we can! - Paralee, Sep 7, 2011

Paralee, my brilliant teacher. Good to see you here, mi profesora .

That's a great idea, I can't wait to see my sentences sent as examples... wait a minute, my sentences are too vulgar to be published. Ok never mind. LOL

This is really great, just like everybody said. Our collective minds will create lasting content to feed the insatiable dictionary database.

What project is next? Will we be translating secret messages gathered from captured spies? Do we get to go undercover and use false names? (Ooops, many of us do that now...)

I can't wait! smile
