More ¿Que tal? confusion
I understand ¿Que tal? as a simple question. I even think that ¿Que tal tu hermano? is pretty clear (what's up with you brother?). But can 'que tal' be used for questions in other ways?
What about "¿Que tal este fin de semana?", would that be "what are you/we up to this weekend?"
Or "¿Que tal al pizza?", does that ask "how is the pizza" or "when is the pizza going to arrive", or "can I have some of that pizza?"
Finally, can "que tal" be used to talk about the past (similar to como esta changes to como estaba)?

¿Qué tal tu hermano? = How is your brother doing?
¿Qué tal, hermano? = How are you, brother?/How are you doing, brother?/ How are things with you, brother?
¿Qué tal este fin de semana? = How/what about this weekend? used as a suggestion...when making social arrangements.
¿Qué tal? is an idiom and cannot be translated literally I believe you can say:
¿Cómo fue tu fiesta? = How was you party?
¿Cómo fue tu fin de semana? How was your weekend?

Just to add more, ¿Qué tal con tu hermano? = What's up with your brother? ¿Qué tal tu hermano? = How's your brother?
What's up with / what's the deal with, uses con. Otherwise it's like "How is - "
"¿Qué tal la pizza?" - How's the pizza?
"¿Qué tal con la pizza?" - What's up with / what's the deal with the pizza?
That con makes the difference.
Just a few more examples:
¿Qué tal? = how's things?, how are you?
¿qué tal el partido? = what was the game like?, how was the game?
¿qué tal tu tío? = how's your uncle?
¿qué tal estás? = how are you?
¿qué tal estoy con este vestido? = how do I look in this dress?
¿qué tal has dormido? = how did you sleep?
¿qué tal es físicamente? = what does she look like?
¿qué tal si lo compramos? = why don't we buy it?, suppose we buy it?
