That is a question for yourself.
If you want people to think you are from or learned Spanish from Mexico then sure.

Where do you intend to practise speaking Spanish? Like Eddy I agree that the country where you plan to speak the language should influence your choice of accent.
I prefer and tend to model my Spanish accent on the Spanish spoken in Spain since I have more opportunity to practise Spanish in Spain than anywhere else.
At the end of the day it is your decision and no one else can make it for you! 
In my view no accent is better than another and provided that your accent can be understood by the natives of your chosen country that should be sufficient motivation to continue.
I wouldn't be concerned so much with the accent because it varies based on what part of Mexico that person is from, but I would definitely learn the nuances of how Mexicans speak, assuming you will mainly be speaking with Mexicans.
And by nuances I mean slang, cultural references, idioms, expressions, etc. There are some grammatical structures Mexicans tend use/prefer also.
Wouldn't that depend on the fact of where you propose to speak your new language.
